Dying in Faith for a Better Country (Genesis 23)

Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

By way of introduction: What have you noticed about how different cultures view death?

Read Genesis 23

1.      As we look at verses 1–2, reflect on this moment and discuss together how Abraham meets the moment of the death of Sarah.

2.      As Abraham places Sarah in the grave, he places his trust in God who has made promises concerning this land and Abraham’s future there. Discuss the significance of Sarah being buried at Hebron. (Genesis 12:7, Genesis 13:14–15, Genesis 15:17–21, Genesis 17:8)

3.      Turn to Hebrews 11:8–16, and discuss what Abraham is really looking forward to?

4.      What are the things of life that we love and fear that we will miss in death?

5.      What do our hearts find to functionally find hope in, when it comes to life and death?

Pray for one another and our church, as we desire a better country where Christ is in heaven.
