The God of Peace Will be with You (Philippians 4:4-9)

Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

By way of introduction: What are things that make us anxious?

Read Philippians 4:4-9

  1. Paul writes from prison, to a church that has know suffering, and he writes about anxiety. Discuss how rejoicing in the Lord helps believers in our suffering of “spiritual anxiety” (noting the differences associated with medically-related anxiety).

  2. Talk through the relationship between our prayer-life and our anxiety.

  3. How does thinking on, and practicing, the things written in verse 8 help the spiritually anxious person?

  4. We see that the Lord is at hand (verse 5) and that our hearts and minds will be guarded by the peace of God (verse 7) - how does this work, what does it look like?

  5. The ministry of the church is one of caring for the anxious, outline how we can practice these things and undertake such a ministry.

Pray that we as a church would be prayerful about everything.
