By way of introduction: Describe the feeling of needing help.

Then, describe the feeling of having received help.

Read Psalm 121

1. The Psalms use parallelism, where the second line of a verse repeats what is expressed in the first line - yet said in a different way. What does Psalm 121 say just about our needs?

2. What does it mean (from verses 1-2) that God is our help? Are we able to get along in life, with just a little help from the friend of sinners? Discuss what you think this means.

3. When we believe the words of this Psalm, that the LORD will not slumber nor sleep, what will that mean for us (verses 3-6)?

4. Do you think that verses 7-8 mean we won’t suffer in life? What does it mean that the LORD will keep us from evil?

5. If the gospel of Christ is the fulfilment of this Psalm, how does his death and resurrection bring real application to us through Psalm 121?

6. We often feel vulnerable, we are fragile, we seem small with all that could be against us or overwhelm us. How would reading and believing the words of Psalm 121 be of help to us as individuals, as a church?
   

Pray for one another, that we would receive the help of the Lord, by the faith of lifting up our eyes of trust in Him.
