Whatever happens, we are not frightened (Philippians 1:27-30)

Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives

(1 Thessalonians 2:8)

By way of introduction: What frightens us?

Read Philippians 1:27-30

  1. As we come to the end of chapter 1, as a group outline the context of this passage, in the bigger pictures of:

    • the chapter

    • the letter

    • the Bible

  2. Paul exhorts us in verse 27 with this imperative, ‘only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ’. Discuss what a “gospel-worthy” life would mean for us. (Check out the cross references in Philippians 3:20 & Ephesian 4:1-6)

  3. Talk through why don’t we need to be ‘frightened in anything by your opponents’ (verse 28)?

  4. In verses 29-30 we see that Christians receive salvation and suffering. From this passage particularly, what brings about this suffering and how can we engage it with a ‘manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ’?

  5. From this passage particularly, what part does the church play in our times of being frightened by opponents and the suffering this brings?

Pray for one another of our church family, that we would lead lives worthy of the gospel of Christ.
