Monthly Memory Verses for the Whole Church
We need God’s word in our hearts, it’s life-giving - and I think it’s so helpful for our hearts to have a church-wide monthly memory verse. Here are all my reasons, for our reforming:
- Scripture memory is important for all stages of life not just childhood (Psalm 119:11)
- Learning as a whole church family will enhance intergenerational discipleship & family worship
- Weekly is too frequent and termly is too long. Monthly is a nice amount of time to commit to memory.
- We want to be committed to the scripture as a church and this shows children that memorisation is not just a kids thing but a Christian thing.
- Having memory verses that are on postors around Reforming House will be an encouragement to us, and bless us with the Bible not far from our eyes.
We can include the memory verse in different ways over the month - the Reforming Weekly / service sheet / Call and response / We are Reforming / Kids talks. In this way we can be seeing, hearing and remembering God’s word in our hearts.
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11)
