Old Habits Dying by Grace (Genesis 20)

Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

By way of introduction: Discuss what the differences are between what we might see as healthy habits and unhealthy habits.

Read Genesis 20

1.      We see from this episode that Abraham had a habit of living by a lie (see Genesis 12:10–20). Yet what from this chapter tells us that this was only the symptom of a deeper heart habit for Abraham?

2.      How had Abraham related to God, and related to others, throughout this episode?

3.      Why is it that sinful habits we might have, are so hard to “kick”?

4.      As you see this episode before us, look through and identify the evidences of God’s grace to all those involved – and discuss how God’s grace changes their situation.

5.      Read Titus 2:11–14, and discuss how the grace of God shown to Abimelech, Abraham & Sarah – and now through Christ to us changes everything in how we can see old habits of sin die?

Pray for one another and our church, that we would have the grace of Christ Jesus change us by putting sin to death Romans 8:13 style.
