Our Prayer for Mother’s Day

7 April 2024 Written by Russ Grinter

Our church is full of women who feel Mother’s Day in different ways. We love them, have been loved by them, and so as a church we pray with them and for them in a prayer like this every year. We pray with thankfulness to God who gave us our mothers.

Our Father in heaven, we thank you for our Mothers, this Mother’s Day.

Thank you for their love, care and self-sacrifice of service for our sake, because of their love.

Gracious God, we know from your word, that because of sin entering the world, there is now pain in childbearing.

And so we pray for those with pain this Mother’s Day.

Show your grace to those who have lost their mothers, and grace to those who would like to be mothers but for some reason cannot be. We are comforted Lord, knowing that you are near the brokenhearted and you save the crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18)

Give grace and peace to those who may have had a troubled relationship with their mother.

We pray for single mums, and ask that churches would love others by serving single mums, widows and orphans in their affliction (James 1:27).

We pray for the various circumstances that people find themselves in when it comes to our mothers.

And we pray, giving thanks for our mothers, who have brought us into the world (Proverbs 31:31).

And we thank you that Jesus was born into the world so that no matter our circumstances, we may be born again, have a fresh start, and know your love for us.

We pray in the name of the One who has adopted us all into a new family, forever, in Jesus name, Amen.
