The Lie, the Switch and the Wardrobe

Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

By way of introduction: What would our society say is wrong with the world, and why?

Read Genesis 3

  1. In Genesis 1-2, we saw that Adam and Eve live in God’s garden, which is like a temple. Discuss why we need Genesis 1-2 to understand the significance of what is happening in Genesis 3.

  2. Look carefully again at Genesis 3:1-5. What is the lie at the heart of the serpent’s question?

  3. There is a “switch” in Genesis 3:6-7, discuss all the ways we could see things being switched from what they are meant to be to what happens here. (Read Romans 1:22-23 to help think this through further)

  4. There is somewhat of a “wardrobe malfunction” in Genesis 3:8-13, what is going on here that people are trying to “cover up”?

  5. As God brings his judgement to the situation, we see sin affect things “far as the curse is found” (Joy to the World). How does the curse now affect the world in different ways?

  6. In verses 20-24 we see the man and the woman expelled from the garden - yet we see God’s grace in many ways. Discuss where you see evidences of God’s grace:

    • at the end of this episode

    • from Genesis 3:15

  7. As we look to the gospel of Christ, what will Genesis 3 written for us mean is application for us?

Let’s pray in response to God’s grace to us, in Jesus name.
