Jesus’ Priorities Filling Our Prayers (John 17)

Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

By way of introduction: What things do you think contribute to us having an unhealthy prayer-life at times?

Read John 17

  1. What things could we pray for, to see Christ glorified in our life and ministry as a church?

  2. In verse 13, Jesus prays: “that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.” Discuss what Jesus is praying for here.

  3. From verses 14-19, Jesus priorities praying for key things for his disciples. Identify what they are and discuss why they are priorities for Jesus.

  4. As Jesus finishes his prayer in verses 20-26, he prays for his church a priority he repeats. What is that, and why does it matter so much?

  5. In verse 19 Jesus shows us a central gospel-application threaded through this prayer, that he consecrates himself that we may be sanctified in truth. Why is that good news (gospel) for us?

  6. How could Jesus’ priorities fill our prayers as a church?

Pray through the prayers of Jesus from John 17, together and for one another.
