Jesus Won’t Give You Up (John 18:1-27)

Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

By way of introduction: When are we tempted to be less-public about being a Christian?

Read John 18:1-27

  1. In the previous chapter, Jesus prayed a prayer of comfort for his disciples and for us. Look at his promises again in John 17:12, how does Jesus guard his disciples in this moment in John 18?

  2. When Jesus is questioned by the high priest (v 19-24), why was he struck for his answer? Did he say anything wrong? Why do people still get offended by the words of Jesus today?

  3. Read Matthew 26:30-35. Three times we see Peter deny Jesus in John 18. How does Peter’s words, just earlier on the same day, make this scene even more painful?

  4. Why do you think Peter so adamently denied being a disciple of Jesus?

  5. In what ways are we tempted to say ‘I will never deny Jesus’ yet we deny him with our actions and reactions? Let's be honest here friends.

  6. Jesus promises to guard us even in our foolishness, weakness and sin; how is he about to prove his faithfulness even in the face of our unfaithfulness? Check out Romans 5:6-11.

  7. As we approach Easter, with our evangelistic event this coming Sunday night, Good Friday service and Resurrection Sunday - how can we take up opportunities to be public with our faith and show we are disciples of Jesus?

Pray for our friends and family, to come and meet Jesus at his word this Easter.
