Humbled Faith (Genesis 13)

Group Guides | Sharing the gospel, sharing our lives (1 Thessalonians 2:8)

By way of introduction: Why do you think we have such a complicated relationship with humility?

Read Genesis 13

  1. Discuss how Abram was humbled in Egypt (how was he “proud” before this?).

  2. Explain the significance of Genesis 13:4, and how that might shape Abram’s response to what happens next.

  3. What are the similarities and differences between the events of verse 10 and verse 14?

  4. Outline the promises the Lord gives in this passage, and explain how we see them fulfilled throughout the Bible.

  5. When we see Jesus from Philippians 2:1-11 we see the most humble man, who is God (amazing!). How does Abram point to Jesus and, and how does this shape our faith?

  6. There is evidence that Abram’s faith has matured in this episode, discuss what you see about his humbled faith.

  7. How does the Lord gently humble us, so that we would mature with a humbled faith?

Pray for our church, that we would be shaped by a humble faith in Christ.
